Hope O'DareHope O'Dare
Dating back to the 1860’s the O’Dare family has been a constant in the Opal City police force. Hope is the youngest member of her family and often felt a need to match her deeds to that of her brothers and her family name. She is the classic Irish spitfire. Hope has strong analytical and acrobatic skills which she uses when she finds herself in dangerous situations, often she is reckless like her brothers but she has the ability to usually come out unscathed. Since Jack’s retirement she has faced many hardships and much loss. Hope has managed to rise in the ranks of the Opal City police department and is now a highly regarded detective. Many believe she will eventually become the next commissioner of the police force. Her deep love for Opal City and her Commitment to the protection of its citizens makes her a deadly foe to any villain that threatens her home. She has sworn a personal oath to take down the ‘Murdock Family’ and has vowed that Opal will never become another Gotham City.
Mac MurdockMac Murdock
The disappearance of supervillians in Opal City has allowed the mortal criminal underworld to fester and grow like a fungus. Mac Murdock has taken on the roll as the new leader for corruption in Opal City. He has survived his share of turf wars and his style and tactics have eliminated his competition. He is on par with many of the Gotham City criminals. With his thugs and his love for 1920’s criminals he has set himself up as the new crime lord. Often known for his keen insight and intelligence he has been a target of the Opal City Police Department for many years, but somehow has always managed to slip out of their hands. Everyone in the city knows his name and the names of his henchmen, but none seem to be able to prove that the ‘Murdock Family’, as it has become known, is the one behind any wrong doing.
Solomon GrundySolomon Grundy
Solomon Grundy is the reincarnation of the wealthy Cyrus Gold. Criminals left him many decades ago to die in Gotham City’s Slaughter Swamp. As he lay dying he cursed them vowing he would return for vengeance. Each time Grundy dies he inevitably is resurrected in the swamp. Every incarnation is a different aspect of Gold’s soul. Sometimes Solomon Grundy possesses tremendous strength and stamina, the level of which varies with his different incarnations. Sometimes he can be held by a group of normal humans, on other occasions, even Superman has not been able to defeat him. The weird elemental energy that imbues his form with pseudo-life makes him virtually indestructible - he is impervious to bullets, fire, and extreme cold, and can survive indefinitely without food, water, or oxygen. The only thing that has ever been able to hurt him was the Mist's special toxins, developed to take out Grundy's plant tissue body. Grundy's personality differs from incarnation to incarnation sometimes good sometimes evil, on occasion he has some distorted memories from his past incarnations.
Starman (Jack Knight)Starman (Jack Knight)
Jack knight has lived the super hero life as Starman. He’s battled evil and stood on more than one occasion with the likes of the Justice League. After many years as Opal City’s Protector Jack retired his career as Starman and left for San Francisco to begin his life as a normal family man dealing in collectibles with his wife and children. In his stead he left the Star Spangled Kid to take on the mantle as the next protector of Opal City. Recent events, though have drawn the Star Spangled Kid away from Opal City, and for reasons all his own, Jack Knight has found that he must reluctantly once more pick up the star rod, return to Opal City, and become the greatest protector it has ever known...Starman.
The Mist (Nash)The Mist (Nash)
Upon the death of her brother, Kyle, the daughter of the original Mist decided to follow in her father's villainous footsteps, though she never truly gained his approval. One of her first actions was to imprison and rape Jack Knight, her brother's killer, this action leading to her becoming the mother of a boy. She possessed the ability to pass through walls and transport herself through air. She could even act as a tranquilizing agent and is extremely proficient with a variety of firearms. She spent a long time traveling, trying to prove to her father that she was worthy, and even killing several super-heroes (Amazing Man II, Crimson Fox and Blue Devil) in an attempt to prove herself. Eventually returning to Opal City to kill Jack (though not before she revealed that he was a father), her plan was aborted by her death at the hands of her father, leaving Jack Knight to care for the son she vowed would grow to hate Starman. The Mist though, has always been an incredibly intelligent person and planned a way to cheat death itself. Her return to the world of the living has brought many new surprises as she learns the extent of her new powers.
The ShadeThe Shade
English by birth, the Shade finds himself most at home in Opal City, a place he has come to love dearly. Over a century ago, he experienced something which gave him command of a mysterious shadow-substance and made him immortal. Using these abilities for mercenary purposes, he often clashed across the globe for many years. The Shade made a name for himself, of a sort, as a costumed villain, fighting the masked mystery men of America for no reason other than for sport. In recent years, however, he has mellowed and reformed, tending to use his powers in protection of Opal City. He has been away from Opal City for many years now, and has spent that time contemplating the nature of good and evil often times walking the line between the two. He has become estranged from the world of men, the only constant in his heart and soul is his love for Opal City. In his many journeys since Starman’s retirement He has learned that Opal faces a new threat and therefore has returned to safeguard his beloved home.
